The number of students studying criminology at university is increasing, with most universities in Australia and Aotearoa offering some type of criminology or criminal justice degree. The increase in student numbers, the changing landscape of Higher Education and the COVID-19 pandemic, has necessitated new ways of thinking about and teaching criminology. Drawing from their diverse expertise, the panelists will explore some of the key challenges and opportunities related to teaching and learning criminology, now and and into the future. Topics for discussion include trauma informed teaching; decolonising the curriculum; innovative and authentic assessments; balancing ‘hot’ topics with theoretically informed content and many more. This panel is an opportunity to examine many of the current issues in teaching and learning criminology in Australia and Aotearoa.
